Undercroft Car Park and Full Basement Installation

Mammoth Movers can raise buildings to allow for the installation of a car park. We can also use our technology to underpin a building at its current height, enabling the installation of a cellar or car park below-grade.

This method provides a reduced impact on the streetscape while allowing for increased floor area or storage space. It also enables significant increase in office carpark availability on a restricted site.

Cellar installation approaches have been well developed in New York, where no land tax is applicable to floor area below grade.

Step 1: Excavation

The installation of a cellar/basement/car park requires the excavation and installation of cribbing support columns which transfer the load from the existing building down to the proposed new height underground floor level.

Step 2: Steel beam installation

Steel beams are installed on top of the cribbing columns and shimmed out to transfer the weight load of the building onto the cribbing columns.

Step 3: Additional excavation

The remainder of the area under the building is excavated to provide the relevant clear area for the new basement or carpark.

Step 4: Footing Installation

New footings are installed and new basement walls or columns are installed to support the building, transferring the weight load of the building to the new foundations

Step 5: Lowering

the building is lowered onto the new support system and the temporary cribbing, jacks and steel support is removed.
